My campaign will focus on several key issues:
- LEADERSHIP - As a result of many years of involvement and civic engagement (serving over 15 years as a city administrator, 6 years on a Board of Education, 3 years as an Alderman, 3 years on a college Board of Overseers, as well as a numerous other professional and civic committees), I recognize there are challenges Macon must face head on to improve and enhance its growth and prosperity.
- OPENNESS/TRANSPARENCY - I strongly support enhancing openness and transparency in local government which is crucial to operating good government. Nasi believes government exists to serve the community and that citizens have a right to know how government conducts public business and allocates taxpayer dollars. City leaders have a duty and responsibility to share information with the public, which where accountability begins. Good government keeps the best interests of citizens at the forefront and is open/transparent in the process of serving them.
- There is a palpable lack of trust within the community as to how the City handles business matters. If elected, I am committed to seeing that information is openly posted and readily accessible to the community in order to receive needed feedback to me and the remainder of the City Council. This two-way communication, (the City seeking feedback, citizens providing input) should be standard operating procedure in decision making. I’ve spoken to many residents who question the transparency of many past City decisions. My objective will be to open the inner workings of city government to the public in an effort to help reestablish trust.
- RESPONSIVENESS - I further support local government responsiveness to residents. “I’ve heard too many stories of people bringing issues to the attention of city hall and then never hearing any type of response or follow up. If elected, I am committed to implementing a citizen action initiative designed to assist city staff properly respond to citizen concerns as well as keeping citizens informed of progress addressing the concerns raised, all in an efficient and effective manner.”
- INFRASTRUCTURE - In order to attract investment to our community, the city has to maintain its basic infrastructure. Business attraction efforts need to be enhanced to attract new jobs to the city, but in order to be great candidates for their investment, Macon needs to meet them halfway with improved infrastructure like streets, water, and sewer. I will work with staff and elected officials to improve the maintenance activities of city operations.
- REVITALIZATION - I intend to push to maintain and build upon the high quality of life our city offers by developing and promoting a balanced and healthy economic development strategy to attract new jobs to Macon. I believe there is tremendous opportunity as a result of a number of community revitalization projects currently underway. But these one-off projects could be enhanced by an overall promotional strategy that capitalizes upon their strengths and the strengths of the community.
Maconites are so giving, helpful, and considerate to one another and, like me, are proud of this community. Macon is full of people with character, and life stories of all kinds that make it distinctly unique from other places. Over the coming months I look forward to engaging with you, listening to your concerns, and working together to shape a brighter future for Macon.
